ShipRelyEx: Reliable Shipping Solutions for Your Business Needs
Today, more than 80% of global shipping involves containers. They're packed with everything from personal storage items in dry containers to heavy machinery on flat rack containers. For business owners shipping products, getting a container from point A to point B requires precise planning and high-level tracking. But that's easier said than done when global supply chains become over-congested, leading to loading time issues and delays.
That's bad news for business owners who are already under a massive amount of stress. The truth is that container storage delays can cripple a business, but there's a viable solution: drayage brokers in Denver, CO like RelyEx. Drayage companies provide unique solutions to minimize demurrage and help ensure the successful delivery of your freight.
With more than 30 combined years of experience and a solutions-oriented team, RelyEx has quickly become the first choice for streamlined, efficient drayage services. To understand the true value of RelyEx's offerings in the global logistics industry, it helps to understand first what drayage is and why it's used.
If you're a seasoned business owner who uses port drayage to transport your products, you know exactly how important the service can be. But if you were to poll a group of random people, you may get five different definitions of the term "drayage." That begs the question, how is one of the most crucial steps in the supply chain and most vital components of global trade such a confusing concept? When you break it down, it's not too difficult to grasp.
Drayage, by definition, means the transportation of freight from an ocean port to another destination. Today, drayage is also used to describe the process of transporting products and goods over short distances or over "the first mile."
While drayage often means short-distance movements during the supply chain process, it's primarily used in the container shipping space. Drayage loads usually have arrival and departure points in the same city and don't include long-haul, national transportation.
Because a drayage load can mean a few different things, confusion among carriers is common. Many carriers link drayage with going into a port, but that isn't always true. While all drayage loads typically originate from a port of entry, there are often several legs of a drayage journey before a container turns up at its final stop. Legs of a drayage load may include:
You may be thinking, what's so important about drayage? It's such a small step in the container storage transport process. In reality, it's an integral piece needed in the logistics industry and a crucial part of U.S. supply chain management.
To truly understand the importance of drayage, let's use flowers as an example. Most cut flower shipments enter the market from areas in South America until they end up at Dutch auction houses. Once there, wholesalers purchase flowers in bulk and send those products to retail outlets worldwide. Because flowers are perishable, they typically need to be refrigerated and are often shipped in reefer containers. These refrigerated vessels must maintain a certain temp to prevent loss.
Drayage companies like RelyEx allow flower shippers to send their products from Argentinian ports to airports in the Netherlands with peace of mind because their products are protected. The only way to accomplish this feat is with the help of swift, meticulous port drayage services. Drayage companies allow flower shippers to send their products from Argentinian ports to airports in the Netherlands with peace of mind, because their products are protected. The only way to accomplish this feat is with the help of swift, meticulous port drayage services.
If port drayage is compromised, it can cause delays and even fines. You know the packages you get delivered to your front door from apps like Amazon? Without drayage and drayage brokers, one or two-day shipping times wouldn't even be possible.
As a multi-billion-dollar industry in the U.S. alone, it seems like drayage shipping issues shouldn't exist. But the fact is inefficiencies and congestion are still major problems at ports. Whether it's a lack of carriers, absent chassis, or overburdened terminals, delays lead to missed deadlines, lost revenue, and worse.
But anytime challenges exist, so too do innovative solutions.

Our team of container drayage experts provides your business with unique solutions to nuanced shipping problems, minimizing demurrage and ensuring the successful delivery of your freight.
Demurrage is a charge issued by a port, carrier, or railroad company for storing containers that do not load and unload their cargo promptly. Once the daily limit of free time is exceeded, shippers are charged daily demurrage fees until their cargo is shipped. Though different ports have different policies, charges can range from $75 to $150 per container, per day, for a set number of days. Additional demurrage fees are incurred if a shipper exceeds the port's parameters.
Even when shippers maintain a tight schedule for unloading freight, external factors can play an uncontrollable part. Typically, shipping mistakes caused by human error trigger the most demurrage charges. Some of the most common causes of demurrage include:
Typically, shippers need four specific documents to clear shipments through customs: A Bill of Lading (or BOL), a commercial invoice, a packing list, and an arrival notice. Seasoned drayage brokers like RelyEx are used to preparing these documents, but new shippers tend to miss this step due to inexperience.
If a shipper only pays for part of their shipment, a vessel operator may refuse to release their freight until their bill is fully paid. Payment delays lead to cargo detention at the port of entry, which triggers demurrage charges.
QUOTE REQUESTPaperwork is needed when you're shipping goods with a drayage company. When documents like the Certificate of Origin or Bill of Lading arrive at their destination late, you can expect demurrage fees. RelyEx avoids this situation entirely by being proactive when submitting paperwork.
Additional causes for demurrage fees can include:
At RelyEx, we know first-hand how stressful supply chain problems can be for business owners. Though drayage shipping might seem minor on the surface, it affects every stage of your shipping process. DENVER — A fast-casual restaurant chain celebrated its move to Colorado with a parade of longhorns.
Mendocino Farms held a longhorn parade Wednesday morning through Cherry Creek North to commemorate the opening of its first restaurant location in Colorado.
The new restaurant, located at 320 N. Fillmore St., near 3rd Avenue and Fillmore in Denver, officially opened on Tuesday.
Mendocino Farms, which features a menu of sandwiches and salads, has more than 70 locations in California, Texas, Washington and Illinois.
"We are thrilled to introduce Mendocino Farms to Colorado, starting with Cherry Creek North, a community celebrated for its diverse mix of boutiques, art galleries, fitness studios and office space," said Mendocino Farms CEO Kevin Miles.
Mendocino Farms said it plans to expand in Colorado, with additional locations expected to be announced in coming months.
"Since our founding in 2005, we've been on a mission to make hearts and stomachs happy by offering more than just great food; we create welcoming gathering places where happiness is always an order away," Miles said. "The neighborhood's appreciation for quality and innovation aligns perfectly with our 'Eat Happy' philosophy, and we're eager to bring our chef inspired salads and sandwiches to the residents and visitors of Denver. We are excited to be a part of the vibrancy of Cherry Creek North and hope to become a go-to spot for those who frequent the district."

Meteorologist Chris Bianchi explains why heavy rain across Texas will cause northeast Colorado to get less rain than what was initially in the forecast.
DENVER — Forecasted snow and rain totals have been slightly reduced for northeast Colorado on Tuesday as a key storm system shifted farther south than originally expected.
The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team said the result is less moisture for the area, but still enough to benefit ongoing drought and wildfire conditions.
The change stems from an upper-level low pressure system currently centered near Albuquerque, New Mexico. Typically, such a setup signals a high-impact storm for the Denver region due to upslope conditions.
However, storms over the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles didn’t intensify as much as forecast models had predicted, leading to less energy and moisture transport into Colorado.
That weaker storm activity released less latent heat — the energy needed to fuel stronger weather systems — and also blocked gulf moisture from reaching northeast Colorado. As a result, the low-pressure system’s path shifted 50 to 100 miles south of earlier projections.
While northeast Colorado will see reduced precipitation, significant snowfall is still expected south and east of the Palmer Divide.
Foothill regions west of Denver could receive one to two feet of snow, with parts of southern Colorado, including Pikes Peak, potentially seeing up to four feet.
Despite the change, experts say the storm remains good news. The moisture will help ease drought conditions and improve snowpack levels, which had recently fallen near record lows. Firefighters are also monitoring the rain and snow closely as it could reduce wildfire risks.

Chevron, Colorado’s largest oil and gas producer, plans to lay off about 125 employees in its Denver office starting July 1 as part of an effort to cut costs companywide.
The company said in a letter to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment that the job cuts would be permanent and that the employees aren’t members of a union.
The announcement comes as oil prices hit a four-year low, hovering at around $60 a barrel Tuesday.
“Chevron will try to redeploy employees to other Chevron locations, which may reduce the number of layoffs at this location,” the company said in the notice, required under the Colorado Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.
Most of the Colorado workforce that manages day-to-day operations and regulatory compliance should be largely unchanged, Trudi Lewis Boyd, Chevron’s corporate affairs manager, said in an email. A number of Denver positions will move to the company’s headquarters in Houston as part of the reorganization
Employees laid off will be offered severance as well as supplemental assistance for medical continuation coverage, Chevron said.
“Of course, any workforce reduction is a difficult decision, and we do not make it lightly,” Boyd said.
Earlier this year, Chevron said it planned to reduce its overall workforce up to 20% and to slash costs up to $3 billion by the end of 2026. The Wall Street Journal reported that roughly 8,000 employees could be affected.
Chevron said in February that it is changing its organizational structure to rely more on global centers around the world. The company had approximately 45,300 employees at the end of 2024.
In Colorado, Chevron’s operations are centered in the Denver-Julesburg formation in the northeastern part of the state. Chevron has access to roughly 600,000 acres in the basin, according to its website.
In 2023, Chevron acquired PDC Energy in a $7.6 billion deal that made it the largest oil and gas company in Colorado.

DENVER — Employees at a King Soopers location in Denver’s Green Valley Ranch (GVR) neighborhood are speaking out after a website recently ranked the store the second-worst grocery store in the U.S.
The website Solitaired.com recently released its annual ranking of grocery stores across the country based on Google reviews.
The King Soopers at 18605 Green Valley Ranch Boulevard ranked second on its list of The 50 Worst Grocery Stores in the U.S.
More than 1,500 shoppers of the Green Valley Ranch location have submitted reviews, giving the store an overall rating of 3.4 stars.
Top 10 Worst Grocery Stores in the U.S.
According to the store's Google review section, common complaints include empty shelves, rude customer service, and long checkout lines.
However, when Denver7 visited the store Monday, we didn’t see long lines at the check stands and the shelves seemed well stocked.
We talked to a few employees who didn’t want to be identified or appear on camera, and one of them said they felt the low ranking was unfair.
They told Denver7 that they try their best with the employees and resources they have and feel that Google reviewers “threw them under the bus.”
Shoppers were also surprised by the ranking.
One man told Denver7 that he feels comfortable at the location and doesn't understand why the GVR King Soopers was ranked so low, suggesting the store’s age may play a role.
The interior of the GVR store did appear somewhat dated.
Neal Taparia, the author of the Solitaired.com survey, explained that the March 2025 analysis looked at “Google reviews from the 100 most populated cities in the United States, focusing on the first 30 grocery store results in each city.”
From those 30, they filtered it down to retailers with just three stars or lower and focused on keywords like “price,” “rude,” “unfriendly,” “long,” and “line.”
Green Valley Ranch is not alone
Colorado grocery stores were heavily featured in the rankings, with two other locations landing in the Top 10 Worst Grocery Stores list.
King Soopers’ Aurora location ranked third, while a Safeway in Denver took the seventh spot.
Colorado grocery stores also dominated the website’s Top 10 Grocery Stores with the Worst Customer Service, with the King Soopers GVR store coming in at #6, just behind the grocery chain’s Quebec Street location, which was ranked #4 in the nation.

Heavier rain will develop along the Front Range by late Tuesday morning, with scattered showers expected through the night.
DENVER — A spring storm system is set to bring periods of heavy rain in the Denver metro and I-25 corridor with wet, heavy snow forecast for Colorado’s mountains where a winter storm warning will go into effect for up to 2 feet of accumulation in spots.
Along with the shift from warm, dry days – temperatures will drop with Denver’s high on Tuesday expected to barely reach 50 degrees and again stay in the 50s on Wednesday before conditions dry out starting late Wednesday into Thursday.
A winter storm warning goes into effect starting 6 a.m. Tuesday through Wednesday morning for areas above 9,000 feet in portions of Jackson, Larimer, Grand, Boulder, Gilpin, Clear Creek, Summit and Park Counties where 12 to 22 inches of snow is possible, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Boulder.
The winter storm warning was upgraded from an earlier winter storm watch.
Portions of the Northern and Southern Front Range Foothills go under a winter weather advisory for snowfall acumulations up to 7 inches.
“Travel could be very difficult, including I-70 east of the Eisenhower Tunnel, the Peak to Peak Highway, US40 and Berthoud Pass area, and Highway 14 over and east of Cameron Pass. The hazardous conditions will impact the late Tuesday morning and Tuesday evening commutes,” said NWS forecasters.
Denver7 chief meteorologist Lisa Hidalgo said the wet weather will stick around in the metro’s forecast for the next several days.
“Scattered showers and thunderstorms will start to pop up Monday afternoon and the heaviest rain is going to fall on Tuesday with Colorado’s Plains looking to see around 1 to 2 inches of rain by Wednesday night,” said Hidalgo. “We have a low risk of severe weather with more wet weather in Denver expected overnight and then definitely looking at wet roads for the morning commute Tuesday."
Denver should see between 1 and 2 inches of rain with heavier rain and snow amounts expected west and south of the metro, but the threat of flooding is low, said the NWS.
Here are potential rain totals through Wednesday from the NWS.
The rain is expected to pick up in intensity across the Front Range during the day on Tuesday. Hidalgo said there is a possibility communities along the Palmer Divide could see a rain-snow mix.
NWS forecasters said heavy snow is possible by Tuesday evening down to around 7,500 to 8,000 feet in the Foothills.
“Definitely looking at some slushier conditions for the Foothills. Skies will gradually start to clear out late in the day on Wednesday but we’ll still see more cloud cover and a chance for showers early Wednesday before drier weather starts to settle in,” added Hidalgo.
After several soggy days, temperatures rebound into the mid-60s on Thursday in Denver before reaching the 70s on Friday.Denver’s weather forecast for the weekend looks nice with warmer temps and more sunshine on both days.Saturday’s high should reach near 74 degrees and then 76 degrees with mostly sunny skies on Sunday in Denver.
April in Denver was the 12th driest on record. According to NWS stats, the city only received 2.2” of snow, which is 4 inches below normal. Denver’s official rain gauge only saw a half inch of rain, which was 1.18” below normal.
As for the Denver's snow totals for the season, as of April, the season's cumulative total is down 7.2" from normal. As of the end of April, Denver's snow gauge should be at around 54.9" for the season with the 2024-25 total coming in at 47.7.
Denver's monthly snowfall total for the month of May is only 1.7".
