ShipRelyEx: Reliable Shipping Solutions for Your Business Needs
Today, more than 80% of global shipping involves containers. They're packed with everything from personal storage items in dry containers to heavy machinery on flat rack containers. For business owners shipping products, getting a container from point A to point B requires precise planning and high-level tracking. But that's easier said than done when global supply chains become over-congested, leading to loading time issues and delays.
That's bad news for business owners who are already under a massive amount of stress. The truth is that container storage delays can cripple a business, but there's a viable solution: drayage brokers in Detroit, MI like RelyEx. Drayage companies provide unique solutions to minimize demurrage and help ensure the successful delivery of your freight.
With more than 30 combined years of experience and a solutions-oriented team, RelyEx has quickly become the first choice for streamlined, efficient drayage services. To understand the true value of RelyEx's offerings in the global logistics industry, it helps to understand first what drayage is and why it's used.
If you're a seasoned business owner who uses port drayage to transport your products, you know exactly how important the service can be. But if you were to poll a group of random people, you may get five different definitions of the term "drayage." That begs the question, how is one of the most crucial steps in the supply chain and most vital components of global trade such a confusing concept? When you break it down, it's not too difficult to grasp.
Drayage, by definition, means the transportation of freight from an ocean port to another destination. Today, drayage is also used to describe the process of transporting products and goods over short distances or over "the first mile."
While drayage often means short-distance movements during the supply chain process, it's primarily used in the container shipping space. Drayage loads usually have arrival and departure points in the same city and don't include long-haul, national transportation.
Because a drayage load can mean a few different things, confusion among carriers is common. Many carriers link drayage with going into a port, but that isn't always true. While all drayage loads typically originate from a port of entry, there are often several legs of a drayage journey before a container turns up at its final stop. Legs of a drayage load may include:
You may be thinking, what's so important about drayage? It's such a small step in the container storage transport process. In reality, it's an integral piece needed in the logistics industry and a crucial part of U.S. supply chain management.
To truly understand the importance of drayage, let's use flowers as an example. Most cut flower shipments enter the market from areas in South America until they end up at Dutch auction houses. Once there, wholesalers purchase flowers in bulk and send those products to retail outlets worldwide. Because flowers are perishable, they typically need to be refrigerated and are often shipped in reefer containers. These refrigerated vessels must maintain a certain temp to prevent loss.
Drayage companies like RelyEx allow flower shippers to send their products from Argentinian ports to airports in the Netherlands with peace of mind because their products are protected. The only way to accomplish this feat is with the help of swift, meticulous port drayage services. Drayage companies allow flower shippers to send their products from Argentinian ports to airports in the Netherlands with peace of mind, because their products are protected. The only way to accomplish this feat is with the help of swift, meticulous port drayage services.
If port drayage is compromised, it can cause delays and even fines. You know the packages you get delivered to your front door from apps like Amazon? Without drayage and drayage brokers, one or two-day shipping times wouldn't even be possible.
As a multi-billion-dollar industry in the U.S. alone, it seems like drayage shipping issues shouldn't exist. But the fact is inefficiencies and congestion are still major problems at ports. Whether it's a lack of carriers, absent chassis, or overburdened terminals, delays lead to missed deadlines, lost revenue, and worse.
But anytime challenges exist, so too do innovative solutions.

Our team of container drayage experts provides your business with unique solutions to nuanced shipping problems, minimizing demurrage and ensuring the successful delivery of your freight.
Demurrage is a charge issued by a port, carrier, or railroad company for storing containers that do not load and unload their cargo promptly. Once the daily limit of free time is exceeded, shippers are charged daily demurrage fees until their cargo is shipped. Though different ports have different policies, charges can range from $75 to $150 per container, per day, for a set number of days. Additional demurrage fees are incurred if a shipper exceeds the port's parameters.
Even when shippers maintain a tight schedule for unloading freight, external factors can play an uncontrollable part. Typically, shipping mistakes caused by human error trigger the most demurrage charges. Some of the most common causes of demurrage include:
Typically, shippers need four specific documents to clear shipments through customs: A Bill of Lading (or BOL), a commercial invoice, a packing list, and an arrival notice. Seasoned drayage brokers like RelyEx are used to preparing these documents, but new shippers tend to miss this step due to inexperience.
If a shipper only pays for part of their shipment, a vessel operator may refuse to release their freight until their bill is fully paid. Payment delays lead to cargo detention at the port of entry, which triggers demurrage charges.
QUOTE REQUESTPaperwork is needed when you're shipping goods with a drayage company. When documents like the Certificate of Origin or Bill of Lading arrive at their destination late, you can expect demurrage fees. RelyEx avoids this situation entirely by being proactive when submitting paperwork.
Additional causes for demurrage fees can include:
At RelyEx, we know first-hand how stressful supply chain problems can be for business owners. Though drayage shipping might seem minor on the surface, it affects every stage of your shipping process. And when inevitable hurdles manifest, RelyEx propels you over the proverbial roadblocks with a proactive mindset and a passion for challenging projects. We believe that all problems have a solution, and our unique vantage point allows us to provide first-hand solutions to customers in a wide array of industries.

Detroit, MI (May 5, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision at a major Midtown intersection left two individuals injured Saturday afternoon, according to reports from local sources.
The crash occurred on May 4 at the intersection of West Fisher Freeway and Woodward Avenue, a heavily traveled area in central Detroit that connects multiple downtown and Midtown corridors. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene shortly after the collision and provided care to both injured individuals.
While neither victim’s identity nor condition has been formally released, authorities confirmed that both sustained injuries requiring medical attention. The extent of those injuries remains unclear at this time. It is also not known whether either driver was transported to a nearby hospital or treated on-site.
Police have not yet announced what caused the crash, and an investigation is ongoing to determine contributing factors such as speed, lane changes, or signal violations.
Traffic was temporarily impacted in the area, with responders managing vehicle flow around the affected lanes.
We extend our best wishes to those injured and hope for their full recovery.
Saturday’s crash in Midtown highlights the risks drivers face in fast-paced, high-density intersections where freeway ramps and city roads converge. The area around West Fisher Freeway and Woodward Avenue sees constant vehicle activity—including through-traffic, merging vehicles, pedestrians, and buses—making it one of Detroit’s more accident-prone zones.
Even routine trips through this area can be disrupted in an instant by driver distraction, misjudged speeds, or failure to yield at merging points. The injuries sustained in this case serve as a reminder that crashes at urban intersections, even if non-fatal, can leave victims facing significant medical, legal, and financial challenges.
Injuries from two-vehicle collisions often include neck and back trauma, concussions, and fractures—conditions that may not fully appear until hours or days after the accident. Prompt medical assessment and detailed crash documentation are vital steps in ensuring recovery and accountability.
When dealing with urban crashes, it’s also important to consider how accident location affects claims and investigations. Midtown’s busy streets and camera coverage may provide critical footage or witness accounts that support the investigation.
If you’ve been injured in a Detroit vehicle collision—especially at complex intersections like W Fisher and Woodward—early support can make a meaningful difference in how you recover physically and financially.
Urban crashes come with real consequences, but you don’t have to face them alone. At Local Accident Reports, we help injury victims connect with the resources they need—whether it’s medical care, legal help, or practical guidance during recovery. If you’ve been hurt in a city crash and need support, contact Local Accident Reports today. We’re here to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.

Detroit, MI (May 5, 2025) – A vehicle rollover crash with injuries occurred on Interstate 96 West near the Livernois Avenue exit in Detroit on Sunday, drawing an emergency response from local law enforcement and medical crews.
The accident took place on May 4 in the Petosky-Otsego neighborhood, a high-traffic corridor that connects west Detroit with downtown and suburban areas. The crash involved a vehicle overturning on the highway, a type of collision often linked to serious injury due to the violent motion and potential for ejection or structural compromise.
Emergency personnel responded quickly to the scene to assist the individuals involved. While the exact number of victims and the extent of their injuries has not yet been officially released, early reports confirmed that at least one person required medical attention as a result of the crash.
Officials have not released details about what caused the vehicle to roll over, but investigators are likely assessing whether speed, road conditions, mechanical failure, or driver behavior played a role in the incident. Traffic was temporarily disrupted along I-96 West as responders worked to secure the scene and remove the overturned vehicle.
We extend our best wishes to all those injured in the crash and hope for their full and speedy recovery.
Rollover accidents like Sunday’s crash on I-96 in Detroit are among the most dangerous and potentially life-threatening types of vehicle collisions. Although they represent a smaller percentage of total crashes, rollovers account for a disproportionate number of serious injuries and fatalities—especially on high-speed interstates like I-96.
Several factors can contribute to rollover incidents, including overcorrection, abrupt lane changes, tire blowouts, or collisions with other vehicles or barriers. SUVs and trucks are particularly susceptible due to their higher centers of gravity.
When a rollover occurs, occupants may suffer head trauma, spinal injuries, or fractures, especially if seatbelts are not in use. Emergency response is critical in such events to assess trauma, extract trapped occupants, and stabilize the scene.
Detroit’s complex road network and high traffic volumes add another layer of risk, particularly in areas like Livernois Avenue where on-ramps and merges can lead to sudden braking or swerving. This makes defensive driving and regular vehicle maintenance key to avoiding such serious incidents.
Victims of rollover crashes often face long recovery periods, complicated insurance claims, and the emotional toll of traumatic injury. Seeking proper medical care and understanding your rights can significantly impact the outcome of your recovery.
If you or a loved one has been involved in a rollover accident, don’t wait to get the support and guidance you need.
Rollover crashes can change lives in seconds. At Local Accident Reports, we help connect victims with trusted legal and medical resources that can guide them through the aftermath of a serious collision. Detroit, MI (May 5, 2025) – At least one person was injured following a vehicle collision Saturday at the intersection of West Davison and Broadstreet Avenue in Detroit, according to local reports.
The crash occurred on May 4 in a busy area where residential traffic meets one of the city’s major east-west thoroughfares. Emergency crews responded promptly to the scene to assist those involved and manage traffic through the intersection. Specific details about the vehicles involved and the total number of individuals injured have not yet been released.
Medical personnel were observed providing aid to the injured on-site, though it remains unclear whether anyone required transport to a hospital. Police have not confirmed what caused the crash, and an investigation is likely underway to determine whether speed, distracted driving, or failure to yield played a role.
Traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted as authorities secured the intersection and cleared the wreckage.
We extend our best wishes to the injured parties and hope for their full recovery.
Intersections like W Davison and Broadstreet Avenue are often the site of vehicle collisions in Detroit due to high traffic volumes, multiple turning lanes, and varying driver behaviors. Even at lower speeds, these crashes can result in serious injuries, particularly when vehicles collide at angles or during left-turn maneuvers.
Saturday’s crash is a reminder of the risks that come with navigating Detroit’s older roadway infrastructure, where visibility and road surface conditions can change rapidly. For both drivers and pedestrians, attentiveness and adherence to traffic signals are key to avoiding incidents in high-traffic corridors.
Injuries resulting from urban intersection crashes frequently include whiplash, contusions, and in more severe cases, head or spinal trauma. Prompt medical care and accurate documentation of the scene are essential for both recovery and accountability.
If you or someone close to you has been injured in a crash at a Detroit intersection, seeking timely medical treatment and legal support can help ensure that your rights and health are protected during the recovery process.
Crashes at Detroit intersections can have serious consequences.
