ShipRelyEx: Reliable Shipping Solutions for Your Business Needs
Today, more than 80% of global shipping involves containers. They're packed with everything from personal storage items in dry containers to heavy machinery on flat rack containers. For business owners shipping products, getting a container from point A to point B requires precise planning and high-level tracking. But that's easier said than done when global supply chains become over-congested, leading to loading time issues and delays.
That's bad news for business owners who are already under a massive amount of stress. The truth is that container storage delays can cripple a business, but there's a viable solution: drayage brokers in Kansas City, MO like RelyEx. Drayage companies provide unique solutions to minimize demurrage and help ensure the successful delivery of your freight.
With more than 30 combined years of experience and a solutions-oriented team, RelyEx has quickly become the first choice for streamlined, efficient drayage services. To understand the true value of RelyEx's offerings in the global logistics industry, it helps to understand first what drayage is and why it's used.
If you're a seasoned business owner who uses port drayage to transport your products, you know exactly how important the service can be. But if you were to poll a group of random people, you may get five different definitions of the term "drayage." That begs the question, how is one of the most crucial steps in the supply chain and most vital components of global trade such a confusing concept? When you break it down, it's not too difficult to grasp.
Drayage, by definition, means the transportation of freight from an ocean port to another destination. Today, drayage is also used to describe the process of transporting products and goods over short distances or over "the first mile."
While drayage often means short-distance movements during the supply chain process, it's primarily used in the container shipping space. Drayage loads usually have arrival and departure points in the same city and don't include long-haul, national transportation.
Because a drayage load can mean a few different things, confusion among carriers is common. Many carriers link drayage with going into a port, but that isn't always true. While all drayage loads typically originate from a port of entry, there are often several legs of a drayage journey before a container turns up at its final stop. Legs of a drayage load may include:
You may be thinking, what's so important about drayage? It's such a small step in the container storage transport process. In reality, it's an integral piece needed in the logistics industry and a crucial part of U.S. supply chain management.
To truly understand the importance of drayage, let's use flowers as an example. Most cut flower shipments enter the market from areas in South America until they end up at Dutch auction houses. Once there, wholesalers purchase flowers in bulk and send those products to retail outlets worldwide. Because flowers are perishable, they typically need to be refrigerated and are often shipped in reefer containers. These refrigerated vessels must maintain a certain temp to prevent loss.
Drayage companies like RelyEx allow flower shippers to send their products from Argentinian ports to airports in the Netherlands with peace of mind because their products are protected. The only way to accomplish this feat is with the help of swift, meticulous port drayage services. Drayage companies allow flower shippers to send their products from Argentinian ports to airports in the Netherlands with peace of mind, because their products are protected. The only way to accomplish this feat is with the help of swift, meticulous port drayage services.
If port drayage is compromised, it can cause delays and even fines. You know the packages you get delivered to your front door from apps like Amazon? Without drayage and drayage brokers, one or two-day shipping times wouldn't even be possible.
As a multi-billion-dollar industry in the U.S. alone, it seems like drayage shipping issues shouldn't exist. But the fact is inefficiencies and congestion are still major problems at ports. Whether it's a lack of carriers, absent chassis, or overburdened terminals, delays lead to missed deadlines, lost revenue, and worse.
But anytime challenges exist, so too do innovative solutions.

Our team of container drayage experts provides your business with unique solutions to nuanced shipping problems, minimizing demurrage and ensuring the successful delivery of your freight.
Demurrage is a charge issued by a port, carrier, or railroad company for storing containers that do not load and unload their cargo promptly. Once the daily limit of free time is exceeded, shippers are charged daily demurrage fees until their cargo is shipped. Though different ports have different policies, charges can range from $75 to $150 per container, per day, for a set number of days. Additional demurrage fees are incurred if a shipper exceeds the port's parameters.
Even when shippers maintain a tight schedule for unloading freight, external factors can play an uncontrollable part. Typically, shipping mistakes caused by human error trigger the most demurrage charges. Some of the most common causes of demurrage include:
Typically, shippers need four specific documents to clear shipments through customs: A Bill of Lading (or BOL), a commercial invoice, a packing list, and an arrival notice. Seasoned drayage brokers like RelyEx are used to preparing these documents, but new shippers tend to miss this step due to inexperience.
If a shipper only pays for part of their shipment, a vessel operator may refuse to release their freight until their bill is fully paid. Payment delays lead to cargo detention at the port of entry, which triggers demurrage charges.
QUOTE REQUESTPaperwork is needed when you're shipping goods with a drayage company. When documents like the Certificate of Origin or Bill of Lading arrive at their destination late, you can expect demurrage fees. RelyEx avoids this situation entirely by being proactive when submitting paperwork.
Additional causes for demurrage fees can include:
At RelyEx, we know first-hand how stressful supply chain problems can be for business owners. Though drayage shipping might seem minor on the surface, it affects every stage of your shipping process. KANSAS CITY, Mo. —
It’s a new warning in Kansas City’s immigration court.
A flyer to illegal immigrants that reads: "Self deport or face consequences."
Recently posted inside Kansas City immigration courtrooms, the flyers are causing confusion among immigrants, urging them to self-deport, even when they have scheduled hearings years from now, including in 2026 and 2028.
Immigration attorney Andrea Martinez with Martinez Immigration Law LLC described the situation as "an egregious violation of due process for immigrants."
Martinez said immigrants are confused by the flyers, which claim that choosing to self-deport could allow them to keep money earned in the U.S., receive a flight back to their home country, or possibly qualify for legal immigration later.
"Most people will not have any future opportunities for legal immigration based on the current laws, or it would be at least ten years or longer before they could benefit," she said.
The flyers also warn that not self-deporting could lead to a $1,000 daily fine, prison time, and a ban from reentering the U.S.
Martinez criticized the messages, saying they offer poor legal advice and spread misinformation.
"It's terrifying. People are scared all the time. People don't know what to rely on," she said.
Martinez said she is especially concerned about immigrants without legal representation who might mistakenly believe the flyers came from a judge.
"The concern really is for immigrants without lawyers who are going to rely on this information that they're seeing coming directly from a judge," she said.
Her advice to those seeking legal immigration: find a reputable immigration lawyer or a trusted legal resource.
Martinez told KMBC she’s also had clients receive these flyers via text or email.
We have called and emailed the Kansas City Immigration Court and the Department of Justice Executive Office for Immigration Review to ask who posted the flyers, why, and what action is being taken.
We have not yet heard back.

In the 20 or so months since Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce began dating superstar singer Taylor Swift, they’ve both strolled down a red carpet at a swanky event.
Not together, though. Fans of the celebrity couple had hoped it would happen Monday night at the Met Gala, but Kelce and Swift weren’t there.
TMZ reported the world-famous couple received an invitation to fashion’s biggest night but couldn’t make it because of scheduling conflicts.
Even though they were no-shows, Missouri and the Kansas City area were well-represented on the famous blue carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
Springfield native Chappell Roan and Janelle Monáe from KCK both wowed fashion reviewers.
Of course they did.
The night’s theme was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” honoring menswear, specifically Black dandyism, and the historical and cultural importance of Black style and its influence on fashion.
The first to walk the carpet, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, told reporters the exhibit of the same theme opening this weekend at the Met’s Costume Institute has been years in the making.
But in the current racially charged, politically divisive climate, it’s “taken on a new sense of importance and purpose,” she said, a sentiment spoken by many of the celebrities who appeared.
The “best result,” Wintour said, is for many people to see the exhibit, which has been extended through October because of high interest.
Roan made her Met Gala debut Monday. Elle declared: “Chappell Roan brought the Pink Pony Club to the 2025 Met Gala.”
She wore a glittery pink suit — jacket and matching bell bottoms — featuring a patchwork pattern. A giant matching coat trimmed with glittering fur trailed behind her.

She wore her hair large and in charge in huge, Rapunzel-like curls. Her makeup? Bold as always, with silver eye shadow, glittery eyebrows and pink face paint.
Chappell works with stylist Genesis Webb, who recently told Harper’s Bazaar how their partnership works.
“She brings the element of glam drag, and then I bring an element of more punk club kid,” he said. “Personally, I like a lot of black, but then there are designers who have recently taken over my brain, like Viktor & Rolf or Thom Browne.
“I love that Chappell World is opening me up to, like, ‘Oh, we can do a little color, we can add more, take more risks.’ And I’ve just gained a huge appreciation for the campy theatrical aspect not being so dark, like McQueen.”
Unlike newbie Roan, Monáe is a Met Gala veteran and did not disappoint, though she (and Roan) kept fans waiting anxiously until near the end of the red carpet parade to show up.
A-listers tend to do that.
Two years ago Monáe created one of the gala’s most memorable moments in a see-through, cage-like skirt that she lifted to reveal a black Chanel bikini.

She turned to the designer of that look this year, though she was more covered up. She embraced the Black dandyism theme in a costume with shoulders so exaggerated they likely forced her to walk sideways through doorways.
She collaborated with fashion designer Thom Browne — who created her 2023 ensemble — and “Wicked” costume designer Paul Tazewell, who earlier this year became the first Black man to win an Oscar for costume design.
She told The Associated Press before the gala the look honored her ancestors and dandy-dressing family members.

Attendance at this year’s event seemed to feature more athletes than previous years. While many of the Hollywood celebs opted for costumes or large clothing (looking at you, Walton Coggins), Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow went with a classic look.
But he didn’t have any big rings, either. (Yeah, that’s a wink to Chiefs fans.)
Tennis legend Serena Williams, whose arrival was delayed, made up for the lost time by wearing one of the biggest dresses of the night.
Kelce skipping the event meant he didn’t risk any sort of embarrassing run-in with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who was there with his wife, Bry Rivera.
The QB turned heads with his hat and, for what it’s worth, this NFL couple had a super look.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chicago White Sox had one of their better defensive performances of the season for most of Tuesday’s game against the Kansas City Royals.
And then came the ninth inning.
The Royals took advantage of a late defensive meltdown and scored twice in the ninth to defeat the Sox 4-3 in front of 15,968 at Kauffman Stadium.
The Sox were charged with only one error in the inning, but there were multiple opportunities for outs that just weren’t made.
The Sox entered the ninth leading 3-2. After reliever Cam Booser walked leadoff batter Mark Canha, Drew Waters hit a high pop-up in the infield. Second baseman Chase Meidroth got under it, but the ball hit off his head for an error.
“I just missed it,” Meidroth said. “It’s a ball that’s got to be caught.”
The Sox still had a potential force play, but right fielder Michael A. Taylor threw wildly to second.
“It was up there for a long time,” manager Will Venable said. “Got to catch the ball. And we weren’t able to convert that forceout at second. Tough play.”
Freddy Fermin followed with a bunt single, loading the bases with no outs. Booser rallied to get Kyle Isbel to pop out to third baseman Josh Rojas.
Jonathan India then hit a grounder up the middle. Shortstop Jacob Amaya made a nice diving stop, but his toss to second was off the mark. India was credited with a single as Canha scored the tying run.
The Sox brought in Brooks Baldwin from left field to serve as a fifth infielder. Bobby Witt Jr. then hit a long fly to center that dropped for the winning single.
“There were outs to get there,” Venable said. “We’ve got to do a better job and convert those balls into outs. A really good game until then. These guys have been doing a great job defensively. We’ll go back to work and try again tomorrow.”
Meidroth added: “It’s a tough one. It’s one that’s got to be won. But there’s tomorrow. Don’t dwell on it too long.”
The Sox jumped out to a lead with the help of timely hitting and stellar defense.
Baldwin drove in Matt Thaiss with a single in the fourth. Thaiss scored again in the sixth when India couldn’t field Andrew Vaughn’s grounder to third and was charged with an error.
Isbel homered against Sox starter Sean Burke in the sixth, cutting the lead to 2-1. But that was the only hiccup by Burke, who allowed the one run on four hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Rojas extended the lead to 3-1 with an RBI single in the eighth.
Defensively, first baseman Vaughn made a nice running catch on a foul pop in the third and Baldwin made a strong throw from left in the fourth to cut down Vinnie Pasquantino, who was trying to stretch a single into a double.
But with two outs and Pasquantino on first in the eighth, Salvador Perez hit a liner that appeared playable but went over Baldwin’s head for a run-scoring double.
“I don’t know if he had a great read on the ball,” Venable said. “You’ve got to get back there to make that play. Another ball that probably should be caught.
“Brooks has been doing a great job out there. It’s a tough play, those balls from a right-handed hitter in left that are hit right at you. Takes a second to gauge the depth there. And (he) was just a step short.”
Amaya snared a liner by Maikel Garcia for the final out of the eighth as the Sox held on to the 3-2 lead.
They were on the verge of bouncing back after Monday’s 3-0 loss. Instead, they suffered their most devastating defeat of the season when things fell apart in the ninth.
“Tough loss, no doubt about it,” Venable said. “We played a really good game up there until the ninth inning. Just like every game, we’ll evaluate what we can do better the next time and got a chance to go out and get one tomorrow.”
Venable expressed “all the confidence in the world” that Meidroth will rebound.
“This guy’s a gamer,” Venable said. “He’s going to turn the page and go out there tomorrow and give us everything he’s got. We’ll talk to him, make sure he’s in a good spot. But he’ll be fine.”

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City, Missouri, Mayor Quinton Lucas says incentives from the city of Kansas City and the state of Missouri have powered the city's emergence as a premier filmmaking destination.
"This showcases our city's dedication to championing the arts and fostering creative industries. The city incentive we established eight years ago laid the groundwork for a thriving film ecosystem in our region," Lucas said in a news release. "With the addition of the state incentive in 2023, we're now seeing phenomenal interest from productions looking to capture the unique character and beauty of Kansas City."
Twelve major projects came to Kansas City between October 2023 and October 2024 after the film incentive passed in July 2023.
The mayor's office boasted 60% of the feature films made in Missouri last year were made in the Kansas City area.
"Kansas City now offers the highest possible incentive percentage in the country," the mayor's office said.
Hallmark's "Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story" filmed in the metro in July 2024, premiered in November and became the most-watched cable movie of the year, per a news release from the city.
KC Film Office Director Rachel Kephart said such productions "bring jobs, boost local businesses and showcase Kansas City to audiences worldwide."
She said the film office is "particularly excited about the projects lined up for 2025."
Upcoming releases that used the incentives in 2024 include "The Motherhood," a Hallmark series hosted by Connie Britton. "The Motherhood" wrapped filming in Kansas City last fall and premiered on the Hallmark Channel on May 5.

Now that the rookie minicamp has come and gone for the seven new Kansas City Chiefs draftees as well as undrafted free agents, the new faces of the franchise get the chance to learn the offensive and defensive game plans going into the new year.
The Chiefs added several new faces to various positions this offseason. Last season, warning signs showed for certain position groups that the franchise needed to address during the downtime. One of those positions that was needed to improve was the offensive line.
The offensive line was arguably the Chiefs' biggest concern area last season, as quarterback Patrick Mahomes was taken down the most in his career up to this point. Adding Josh Simmons should give the line some extra size, especially on the left side.
That being said, however, the franchise had an underlying issue that needed to be addressed, and that was the wide receiving position. Following a season without Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown for a majority of the campaign, the wide receiving core wasn't as top-notch as it could have been.
But, with the front office resigning Brown, as well as the franchise getting Rice back at some point in 2025, the core could be one to be fearful of, if you're on the defensive side of the ball. The extra addition of Jalen Royals through the draft provides emense depth for the future, as he could easily grow into a star sooner rather than later.
According to ESPN's Adam Teicher, he also agrees that the Chiefs' wide receiving group shouldn't be messed with in 2025.
"The Chiefs are counting on the return of two top receivers who missed most of last season with injuries. Rashee Rice led the league with 24 catches through the first three games before a season-ending knee injury, while Hollywood Brown played in only two regular-season games because of an asternoclavicular injury. Rice and Brown will combine with Xavier Worthy to give the Chiefs a potent group of wideouts. With the selection of fourth-rounder Jalen Royals, Kansas City also added speed and run-after-the-catch ability on the outside," Teicher wrote.
