ShipRelyEx: Reliable Shipping Solutions for Your Business Needs
Today, more than 80% of global shipping involves containers. They're packed with everything from personal storage items in dry containers to heavy machinery on flat rack containers. For business owners shipping products, getting a container from point A to point B requires precise planning and high-level tracking. But that's easier said than done when global supply chains become over-congested, leading to loading time issues and delays.
That's bad news for business owners who are already under a massive amount of stress. The truth is that container storage delays can cripple a business, but there's a viable solution: drayage brokers in Hoboken, NJ like RelyEx. Drayage companies provide unique solutions to minimize demurrage and help ensure the successful delivery of your freight.
With more than 30 combined years of experience and a solutions-oriented team, RelyEx has quickly become the first choice for streamlined, efficient drayage services. To understand the true value of RelyEx's offerings in the global logistics industry, it helps to understand first what drayage is and why it's used.
If you're a seasoned business owner who uses port drayage to transport your products, you know exactly how important the service can be. But if you were to poll a group of random people, you may get five different definitions of the term "drayage." That begs the question, how is one of the most crucial steps in the supply chain and most vital components of global trade such a confusing concept? When you break it down, it's not too difficult to grasp.
Drayage, by definition, means the transportation of freight from an ocean port to another destination. Today, drayage is also used to describe the process of transporting products and goods over short distances or over "the first mile."
While drayage often means short-distance movements during the supply chain process, it's primarily used in the container shipping space. Drayage loads usually have arrival and departure points in the same city and don't include long-haul, national transportation.
Because a drayage load can mean a few different things, confusion among carriers is common. Many carriers link drayage with going into a port, but that isn't always true. While all drayage loads typically originate from a port of entry, there are often several legs of a drayage journey before a container turns up at its final stop. Legs of a drayage load may include:
You may be thinking, what's so important about drayage? It's such a small step in the container storage transport process. In reality, it's an integral piece needed in the logistics industry and a crucial part of U.S. supply chain management.
To truly understand the importance of drayage, let's use flowers as an example. Most cut flower shipments enter the market from areas in South America until they end up at Dutch auction houses. Once there, wholesalers purchase flowers in bulk and send those products to retail outlets worldwide. Because flowers are perishable, they typically need to be refrigerated and are often shipped in reefer containers. These refrigerated vessels must maintain a certain temp to prevent loss.
Drayage companies like RelyEx allow flower shippers to send their products from Argentinian ports to airports in the Netherlands with peace of mind because their products are protected. The only way to accomplish this feat is with the help of swift, meticulous port drayage services. The only way to accomplish this feat is with the help of swift, meticulous port drayage services.
If port drayage is compromised, it can cause delays and even fines. You know the packages you get delivered to your front door from apps like Amazon? Without drayage and drayage brokers, one or two-day shipping times wouldn't even be possible.
As a multi-billion-dollar industry in the U.S. alone, it seems like drayage shipping issues shouldn't exist. But the fact is inefficiencies and congestion are still major problems at ports. Whether it's a lack of carriers, absent chassis, or overburdened terminals, delays lead to missed deadlines, lost revenue, and worse.
But anytime challenges exist, so too do innovative solutions.
QUOTE REQUESTRelyEx was created because our founders saw a need in the logistics space for more reliability and efficiency. The reality of the shipping and logistics industry is that it has become very transactional. It's an odd evolution, because most businesses seek a third-party logistics partner that is accessible, transparent, and committed to providing solutions.
As the logistics space continues to grow, it creates newfound expenses and complexities. Clients like ours know that and need a supply chain partner who is genuinely interested in their business. By understanding the needs of our customers and carriers, we can provide the most reliable, effective drayage services possible.

QUOTE REQUESTBased in the port city of Hoboken, RelyEx has a keen understanding of the challenges of managing the inbound and outbound flow of containers. Our team of container drayage experts provides your business with unique solutions to nuanced shipping problems, minimizing demurrage and ensuring the successful delivery of your freight.
Demurrage is a charge issued by a port, carrier, or railroad company for storing containers that do not load and unload their cargo promptly. Once the daily limit of free time is exceeded, shippers are charged daily demurrage fees until their cargo is shipped. Though different ports have different policies, charges can range from $75 to $150 per container, per day, for a set number of days. Additional demurrage fees are incurred if a shipper exceeds the port's parameters.
Even when shippers maintain a tight schedule for unloading freight, external factors can play an uncontrollable part. Typically, shipping mistakes caused by human error trigger the most demurrage charges. Some of the most common causes of demurrage include:
Typically, shippers need four specific documents to clear shipments through customs: A Bill of Lading (or BOL), a commercial invoice, a packing list, and an arrival notice. Seasoned drayage brokers like RelyEx are used to preparing these documents, but new shippers tend to miss this step due to inexperience.
If a shipper only pays for part of their shipment, a vessel operator may refuse to release their freight until their bill is fully paid. Payment delays lead to cargo detention at the port of entry, which triggers demurrage charges.
QUOTE REQUESTPaperwork is needed when you're shipping goods with a drayage company. When documents like the Certificate of Origin or Bill of Lading arrive at their destination late, you can expect demurrage fees. RelyEx avoids this situation entirely by being proactive when submitting paperwork.
Additional causes for demurrage fees can include:
At RelyEx, we know first-hand how stressful supply chain problems can be for business owners. Though drayage shipping might seem minor on the surface, it affects every stage of your shipping process. And when inevitable hurdles manifest, RelyEx propels you over the proverbial roadblocks with a proactive mindset and a passion for challenging projects. We believe that all problems have a solution, and our unique vantage point allows us to provide first-hand solutions to customers in a wide array of industries.

Camp Bow Wow is a pet daycare center that provides all-day and overnight pet care. On October 28th, the business reopened in Hoboken under new ownership. Mona and Mudit Sachdev, the owners of the Camps’ Bridgewater and Middlesex locations, now run the Hoboken location. In addition to its soft opening, the business is planning for a grand reopening this November — we’ll update this post as more details come out.

Although under new ownership, Camp Bow Wow has rehired most of the previous team members, per a press release. The business will feature similar services, including indoor + outdoor play areas, grooming, live webcams for owners, as well as 53 cabins and three luxury suites.
To celebrate its reopening, the business will provide a variety of specials, including a five-day care package for the first 50 campers, 17% off any full-cost service until November 22nd, 10% off Thanksgiving boarding reservations, and more.
Camp Bow Wow’s Hoboken location abruptly closed in April of this year, notifying its customers via email on April 29th. The email stated, “We regret to inform you that Camp Bow Wow Hoboken is closed permanently as of April 29. We have loved caring for your pups over the years!”
Although no reasons were listed for the business’s closure, it was announced on PR News Wire in February that the corporate franchisor Propelled Brands, backed by Lightbay Capital and Freeman Spogli — the owners of My Salon Suite — bought over 1,300 of the Camp Bow Wow locations. The exact reason for the closure is still unknown as of this writing.

New Jersey has better bagels than New York — this is well-established. But the Garden State will still gladly welcome one of the city’s top bagel spots.
Apollo Bagels, a bagel shop that opened in Manhattan earlier this year to much acclaim, is planning a new outpost across the river in Hoboken, an Apollo Bagels spokesperson told NJ Advance Media last week. No location or opening date has been set.

The bagel shop started as an extension of Leo, a popular Williamsburg sourdough pizzeria, and eventually moved on to pop-ups across the city and beyond — even serving bagels across the Atlantic in Paris. Apollo Bagels eventually opened brick-and-mortar locations in both the East and West Village.
Apollo Bagels offers a simple, scaled-down menu — a far cry from some of the outlandish bagels you’ll find across the Garden State. They serve sourdough bagels with a crunchy crust that come in plain, sesame and everything varieties. Apollo also serve open-faced bagel sandwiches with lox, white fish salad and other toppings. There are routinely hour-long lines at the shop, which The New York Times deemed to serve one of the best bagels in New York.
When Apollo Bagels comes to Hoboken, it will be in good company. The Mile Square City is one of the better bagels towns in New Jersey — O’Bagel came in at No. 6 on NJ.com’s list of the 51 best bagel ships in New Jersey.

HOBOKEN, NJ — You needed heat last week, A/C this week — what's a Jersey girl or boy to do?
The city of Hoboken has again picked an environmentally friendly energy supplier for the town that the city says is more cost effective, but you can opt out if you want to.
The city is hosting a virtual and then an in-person information session on the Hoboken Renewable Energy Program, the first one Thursday from 6-8 virtually, then next Monday at the Multi-Service Center at 124 Grand St. from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The city’s consultant will provide details on the program, which the city says has saved residents over $800,000 since its launch, including upcoming updates, and answer some frequently asked questions.
The following is from the city's release on the program:
Information Session Details
The updated program features a new provider, IDT Energy, and optional offering for 100 percent renewable electricity at a lower price than basic electric supply from PSE&G. This Green Program Rate is optional, residents must choose to receive the cost savings and climate mitigation benefits of 100 percent renewable electricity. Doing so will support the City’s goal of net-zero energy by 2030, as established in Hoboken’s Climate Action Plan.
The sessions will be offered in both English and Spanish. To register for the virtual info session, click HERE.
Additional information about the updated program will be mailed to residents this month. This mailer will include details of the updated program with IDT Energy, including the 100 percent renewable and minimum renewable options, as well as the new 20 percent base option for renewable energy, frequently asked questions, and methods you can use to opt out of the program, should you wish not to participate. All mail will clearly state “Hoboken Renewable Energy Program” on it, with a return address from "City of Hoboken c/o Concord Energy Services."
PSE&G will continue to distribute residents’ electricity and will remain their utility, but residents will buy their electricity supply through the Hoboken Renewable Energy Program.
The program is an opt-out program as required by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities as stated in N.J.A.C. 14:4-6. Please note, residents can opt-out of the program at any time and there are no fees associated with opting out of the program.
For updated program information, questions, or concerns, please call the program energy consultants at 866-688-5197 option 3 or visit the City’s Renewable Energy Program website at www.hobokennj.gov/renewableenergy.

Hashi Market, a NYC-based Japanese-style supermarket, is crossing the Hudson River to open up its first New Jersey outpost soon. The new market will be located at 75 Park Lane South inside the Park + Shore Development and signage has already been erected in the windows, per Jersey Digs. The market’s other location is situated at 363 Greenwich Street in New York City, with two other locations coming soon to 93 University Place and 330 5th Avenue.
Hashi Market has a wide selection of Japanese food and includes three components: a fresh food supermarket, a mini department store, and catering services, per the website. Some of the items Jersey City locals can expect from this new spot include Japanese cuisine like sushi, fruits + vegetables, and international snacks and drinks. HG has reached out to the market and will update this post with any additional comments.
DRIFT Restaurant + Bar will soon be the latest addition to the Lincoln Harbor area of Weehawken — which we first reported on in January 2024. Formerly occupied by Houlihan’s, the 17,000-square-foot space has been vacant since 2019. Per Jersey Digs, DRIFT is the latest venture from restauranteur Jeremy Casilli, who also owns Hudson + Co at 3 Second Street in Jersey City, Pier 115 at 115 River Road in Edgewater, as well as two New York restaurants.
While the renderings of the mid-century modern interior that include olive trees alongside emerald green, gold, and brown decor are stunning in themselves, a unique component of this new restaurant and bar will be a rotating dining platform that completes a full rotation each hour — giving diners views of the NYC skyline. There will also be a 4,000-square-foot outdoor terrace with a retractable pergola.
As for the menu, Jersey Digs reports that the menu will be focused on modern American cuisine with global influences and an emphasis on seafood, crafted by Executive Chef Bryan Noury. Some of the food options will include small plates, sushi + hand rolls, a raw bar, line-caught fish, steaks, flatbreads, and much more. An opening date has yet to be set at the time of this writing. HG has reached out to DRIFT for more details and will update this post with any additional comments.
