Less than Truckload shipping company in San Diego, CA

Statistics from the US Department of Transportation show more than 700,000 registered motor carriers are traversing our highways and roads. These trucks, which can be packed with everything from bricks and stone to dog food and grocery items, keep thousands of American businesses afloat. For business owners shipping these products across the country, precise planning and high-level tracking are required. But with increasing rates and a wide range of delays to overcome, overseeing a shipment of LTL freight is easier said than done.

ShippingThe Basics of LTL Freight Shipping

In the freight industry, LTL stands for "less-than-truckload." It is a widely-used method of transportation for smaller shipments that don't require the space of a full truckload. In an LTL shipment, several customers' loads are placed onto one truck, which helps reduce how much it costs to ship those products.

In fact, if your freight doesn't fill an entire trailer but weighs 150-15,000 lbs., LTL freight shipping in San Diego, CA, may be the most efficient, cost-conscious way to transport your products. That's because, in an LTL setup, you're only paying for the space your freight takes up. LTL shipping companies like RelyEx optimize LTL loads by choosing the most efficient routes at the best rates so your cargo gets to where it needs to go without any issues.

Business owners often choose LTL freight services in the following circumstances:

  • When freight is dense, large, or bulky
  • Freight exceeds a weight of 150 pounds
  • Crated or palletized shipments
  • When freight passes through distribution centers and local terminals
  • When a cost-effective freight solution is needed
  • When an entire tractor-trailer isn't needed for shipments

When it comes to LTL delivery options, there are a lot to choose from. But not every LTL broker is created equally. Some LTL companies do not have the tools or technology to track your shipments and optimize your routes. In worst-case scenarios, they may not be insured or reliable. If you're looking for an experienced LTL carrier that exceeds expectations with time-tested strategies and innovative technologies, look no further than RelyEx.

Popular Methods of Shipping LTL Freight in San Diego, CA

Depending on where and how often you ship LTL freight, your broker may choose a regional or national LTL carrier. Regional carriers often service a group of states within a region. National carriers have a larger footprint and can often eliminate the need to use several carriers for your shipments. RelyEx has the infrastructure and strategies for all of your LTL shipping - contact our office today to learn more about your options.

Though regional and national carriers are different, they often use similar models for shipping. Two of the most popular types of shipping methods include hub and spoke distribution and LTL consolidation.

LTL Shipping Partner San Diego, CA

What is Hub and Spoke LTL Freight Shipping?

In this traditional model, your shipments go through a network of warehouses, terminals, and hub facilities where your products are grouped with other shipments. Your freight then travels to local "spokes" (or terminals), where they are delivered. If you need to ship freight over short distances, this model may be a good choice to consider.

Some common benefits of the hub and spoke model include:

  • Economical and efficient
  • Improved pickup times
  • More regular delivery times
  • More visibility and easy tracking

What is Consolidated LTL Freight Shipping?

LTL consolidated shipping is a model where LTL carriers bring several shipments from different shippers to a final destination. Instead of using hubs and spokes along the shipping route to bundle freight and move cargo, LTL consolidation works by taking multiple shipments and turning them into a single truckload. This truck then makes multiple stops, where your products are delivered.

Some of the most common benefits of LTL consolidation include:

  • Less freight handling
  • Good for fragile or large freight
  • Fewer claims
  • Less cargo damage
  • Cost-effective pricing

At RelyEx, our goal is to expertly manage the movement of your freight so you can focus on your core business. With more than 20 years of combined experience with LTL freight shipping in San Diego, CA, our team can select the most efficient and cost-effective model for your needs. That's why, when it comes to LTL shipping, we work tirelessly to ensure every aspect of your freight experience is embedded excellence. We take this unique approach because our management were once customers like you. They were people who, for one reason or another, had to deal with frustrating and often unsolved shipping and logistics challenges. Today, we take pride in solving those challenges and only partner with carriers who match our high standards.

If you're looking for an LTL company in San Diego, CA that prioritizes customer service, strong communication, and proactive thinking, we're here to help you avoid delayed shipments and missed expectations.

The start of fall comes with more than just changes in leaves. It will come with changing sunset times, changing clocks and more.

But when does it all change exactly?

Here's a look at some of the autumn dates to know about.

When does fall 2023 start?

The autumnal equinox occurs on Friday, Sept. 22.

Fall doesn’t technically begin until 11:50 p.m. PDT on Sept. 22 in the Northern Hemisphere, but meteorological fall, observed by weather experts and forecasters, officially began on Sept. 1 and runs through Dec. 1.

Here are the meteorological seasons:

Astronomical fall continues through 7:27 p.m. PST on Thursday, Dec. 21, when winter officially begins.

When does daylight saving time end in 2023?

Daylight saving time will soon come to an end, which means Americans will soon turn their clocks back a full hour.

In the U.S., daylight saving time lasts for a total of 34 weeks, running from early-to-mid March to the beginning of November in those states that observe it.

In 2023, Daylight Saving Time began on Sunday, March 12, more than a full week before the official start of spring.

Daylight Saving Time will end on Sunday, Nov. 5 -- that's the date that most people in the U.S. will set their clocks back an hour.

When did the sun start setting before 7 p.m. in San Diego?

One of the unfortunate realities of summer is that the days get progressively shorter.

San Diego saw its first sunset before 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, according to the site Time and Date.

Unfortunately for sunshine lovers, the earlier-sunset trend is only going to continue through December.

When is the earliest sunset time of 2023?

The earliest sunset of 2023 is expected to occur on Friday, Dec. 8 across most of the U.S., varying slightly by location.

In San Diego, the sun will set at 4:42 p.m. that day, according to Time and Date.

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State Athletics announced today the repositioning of the department's comprehensive Name, Image and Likeness initiative formerly known as Aztec Advantage. The rebranded program is now positioned under the name Aztec NIL but will maintain core tenants of the previous program with a focus on assisting student-athletes in NIL through personal and professional development.

In addition to the name change, SDSU has announced the appointment of new NIL coordinator Brenden Hill, who most recently led internal strategy for one of the nations most successful NIL marketing agencies, Triumph NIL (triumphnil.com).

"San Diego State has a long tradition of notable athletes that have developed Hall of Fame brands here on The Mesa," Hill said. "Combining that legacy with the momentum we have built in a commercially viable market like San Diego, there is no doubt that we are well positioned to create a dynamic Name, Image and Likeness eco-system here in America's Finest City. It is a great time to be an Aztec!"

The Aztec NIL program will introduce mentorship, creativity, and empowerment as three core values that align with director of athletics John David Wicker's vision for developing the total student-athlete at SDSU.

"It is important to me that our athletic department at San Diego State graduates well rounded people who will go on to make a positive impact on society," Wicker said. "Name, Image and Likeness provides an opportunity to engage our student-athletes in a parallel track with our AGP program. Financial literacy, brand awareness, and time-management are all key components to NIL. Our reimagined program will complement our approach to student-athlete development and Brenden is the right person to lead our internal strategy while supporting our student-athletes."

The Aztec NIL program will work with student-athletes across sports, including international students, to help them navigate NIL creatively and compliantly. Hill plans to raise awareness regarding the benefits of NIL to fans, alumni and the local business community.

"NIL is a great resource for student-athletes as they navigate real life situations," Hill added. "They are not immune to cost of living expenses and other challenges navigating this ever evolving space. I'm excited to work in partnership with our student-athletes as well as to better inform our alumni and supporters as to how they can participate."

What To Expect

Marketplace: San Diego State recently extended a partnership with NIL technology company Opendorse. The tech platform offers a platform for student-athletes to disclose their NIL activity to compliance in addition to serving as a one stop shop where fans can purchase video messages, request autographs/appearances, and brands can make offers to student-athletes to be ambassadors. Opendorse will introduce a branded landing page for businesses who are interested in leveraging student-athletes NIL alongside SDSU logos, marks and IP.

As of today, any brands that are interested in learning how to leverage SDSU IP alongside NIL are encouraged to reach out to Eric Del Carmen, VP JMI Sports e.delcarmen@jmisports.com. ● Content and Social Media: With the proliferation of the creator economy, Aztec NIL will work alongside all sports teams and athletes to increase media content in collaboration with team accounts to assist student-athletes in showcasing their unique talents and brand personality. ● Licensed NIL Merchandise: Campus Ink has recently introduced expanded product skus through their SDSU NIL Store, including custom jerseys, and signature releases. Fans can expect additional vendors to be added to increase availability of officially licensed products and support of team merchandise that extend beyond wearables in the NIL space. ● Financial Literacy: With increased opportunities to earn money or receive in-kind benefits, there will be an increased investment in financial programming around taxes, budgeting, and financial planning in partnership with notable regional and national service providers. ● Entrepreneurship: SDSU features one of the nation's best startup incubators in Zip Launchpad. Student-Athletes will have access to partner with start-ups to leverage their social currency or professional skills, in addition to leveraging the incubator for their own next great idea!

Connect with Aztec NIL on social media @Aztec_NIL or email NIL Coordinator, Brenden Hill with any questions related to SDSU Name, Image and Likeness at bhill2@sdsu.edu.

ST. LOUIS -- Career win No. 200 and his place in Cardinals lore forever secured, veteran right-hander Adam Wainwright will only pitch at Busch Stadium -- if he pitches again at all -- over the remainder of this season, manager Oliver Marmol said on Tuesday.

The 42-year-old Wainwright, who announced before last year that this will be his final MLB season, saved his best outing of 2023 for Monday when he tossed seven innings of scoreless, four-hit, two-walk baseball in a 1-0 defeat of the Brewers that gave him the 200th victory of his storied career. Wainwright became the fifth active MLB pitcher with 200 or more wins and only the third pitcher in Cardinals history to reach 200 wins.

Here's why 200 wins is a big deal

After Wainwright pitched through shoulder pain and with his aching back taped up on Monday at Busch Stadium, Marmol announced that the MLB veteran of 18 seasons would not be taking his normal turn in the rotation on Saturday when the Cardinals face the Padres in San Diego. He added that if Wainwright pitches again, it will take place during the final home series of the season (Sept. 29-Oct. 1) against the Reds.

“We’re going to sit down. … We’ve started that conversation and we’ve decided that he will not take the start in San Diego,” Marmol said of Wainwright, who is 5-11 with a 7.40 ERA over 21 starts this season. “We’ll walk through what it looks like to finish the season, but we’ve yet to make the decision on [Wainwright pitching again].

“[Monday] night was pretty cool. If he takes another start, it will be in front of our home crowd.”

The Cardinals continue the home series vs. the Brewers from Tuesday to Thursday before embarking on a six-game road trip to San Diego and Milwaukee. Already assured of their first losing season since 2007 and out of the playoffs for the first time since 2018, the Cardinals close out the 2023 season with three home games against the Reds.

In his 478th MLB game, his 411th start and his 59th regular-season start since turning 40 years old, Wainwright became the first player in MLB history to have his 200th victory come via a 1-0 decision, per Elias Sports Bureau. At 42 years and 19 days, Wainwright also became the oldest Cardinals pitcher to throw seven scoreless innings, surpassing what Jim Kaat (41 years, 210 days) did on June 4, 1980.

Asked to pick the coolest text message he got on Monday night and Tuesday afternoon of the hundreds that flooded into his phone, Wainwright said, “[Reds Hall of Fame catcher] Johnny Bench is a pretty cool one.”

One possibility for Wainwright to make another appearance before Cardinals fans would be for him to be used as a designated hitter or a pinch-hitter -- something he has openly lobbied for all season. Wainwright is one of just three players in AL/NL history to homer in his first at-bat then win the game as a pitcher, which he did on May 24, 2006, vs. the Giants. In his career, Wainwright is a .193 hitter with 10 home runs and 75 RBIs. He hit two home runs in 2009, ’16 and ’17 and he has 39 doubles and two triples in his career.

Asked if he had been getting hounded by Wainwright to get some at-bats as his career winds to a close, Marmol playfully said: “That’s what [Wainwright] does. We will see [if it happens].”

Wainwright, who has 108 career wins in St. Louis, is scheduled to hold a three-song postgame concert at Busch Stadium following the game against the Reds on Sept. 30. An aspiring country music artist who performed live in front of fans in January, Wainwright has an album in the works that is scheduled to be released in early 2024. He also surprised Cardinals fans in March by singing the national anthem before the Opening Day loss to the Blue Jays.

The San Diego Padres pulled starter Blake Snell after he tossed seven no-hit innings against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday. Here’s what you need to know:

The Athletic’s instant analysis:

What Snell did

In what may have been his final home start at Petco Park, Snell strengthened his resume ahead of free agency. He also bolstered his case as the apparent frontrunner for the National League Cy Young Award.

Snell’s ERA is down to 2.33, almost half a point lower than any other qualifying pitcher in the majors. He is the first Padre to record consecutive outings of at least six scoreless innings with one hit or no hits allowed. He’s also the first big-league pitcher to do so this season.

Over his last 22 starts, Snell has logged a 1.26 ERA. He is attempting to become the seventh pitcher to win a Cy Young Award in both leagues. — Lin

Why Snell was pulled

Because his pitch count was already above 100, and because free agency beckons. There, Snell could command a contract approaching $200 million. The Scott Boras client has spent the summer putting together a lengthy demonstration in run prevention.

With his tendency to throw a lot of pitches, he also has yet to work into the eighth inning. Tuesday, Snell and the fourth-place Padres opted not to risk injury by pushing him further. Snell is scheduled to start the first game of San Diego’s season-ending road trip. — Lin

What they’re saying

“This game will be forgotten about after tomorrow’s game,” Snell said. “I need to be healthy, I need to pitch and I need to be accountable to throw when it’s my turn to pitch. That’s what’s most important.”

Backstory

The 2018 American League Cy Young Award winner and current NL candidate for the accolade entered the day leading the majors with his 2.43 ERA — but also his 93 walks. Snell has tossed 174 innings in 2023, second-most in his career only behind the 180 2/3 during his Cy Young campaign with the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Padres, eliminated from NL West contention, are 5 1/2 games back of a wild-card spot after Tuesday’s action with a 74-78 record.

In a season full of disappointing teams, the San Diego Padres stand out from the pack. They have spent lavishly -- both in terms of dollars and trade capital -- the last few years to build a core of prime-aged superstars, yet the result is a 73-78 record and a trip to the golf course in October. It stands to reason GM A.J. Preller's seat is getting warm.

On Tuesday, The Athletic detailed San Diego's disappointing season, and one unnamed Padres player went as far as to say the relationship between Preller and manager Bob Melvin is "unfixable." For what it's worth, Preller acknowledged he and Melvin don't always see eye-to-eye, though he called it "healthy debate." Here's more from The Athletic:

Several Padres people interviewed for this story described circumstances in which Preller told players one thing and Melvin told them another. One player, while careful not to absolve himself and his teammates of blame, likened the situation to a toxic relationship between parents in which the kids suffer.

"If nobody's on the same page and you're getting two stories from two different people, there is not trust there," the player said. "The players are going to feel like, well, who can I confide in? Who can I talk to?"

Melvin, a three-time Manager of the Year, joined the Padres last season and led San Diego to the NLCS. He is the team's seventh manager in Preller's nine full seasons as GM (including interims) and their third full-time manager in the last five years. Melvin was expected to help solve to the team's underperformance issues from 2019-21 and provide stability in the dugout.

Instead, the Padres are again underperforming this year, though it should be noted some of their issues were known coming into the season. San Diego lacked depth, particularly beyond their top starters and core relievers, and that depth had held them back at times. The roster is top heavy, and when the guys at the top don't perform as expected, it can make everyone look bad.

"I think we just didn't want it," Manny Machado said recently. "... I will say that. I think that's everyone's fault. It's everybody's fault. We didn't want it as a team. It falls down to the team. That's not necessarily one player. It's not an individual sport. So I think ultimately, it comes down to all of us. We should have wanted it more."

To state the obvious, the GM and manager should be on the same page. You don't have to agree on everything, different opinions are a good thing, but you should be collaborative. It doesn't sound like that's the case with Preller and Melvin. The standings suggest the Padres will make changes after this season. Will Preller really hire a fourth manager in six years?
